How can seeing a psychologist help?

Psychologists are professionally trained individuals specialising in human behaviour. In Australia, there are strict rules regarding who can call themselves a psychologist. Each individual who practices as a psychologist must hold current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. In order to obtain this registration, a course of 6 years of study and supervision must be undertaken along with additional ongoing professional development and training. Psychologists must continue to uphold the highest expectations in ethical practice in order to maintain their registration.

Here at Strategic Psychology we focus on working with you to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself towards living a rich and meaningful life. We focus on creating a safe, non-judgemental space for you to sit down and work through the issues that are causing you distress or unease in your life. We work with you to foster psychological flexibility and resilience to encourage your individual growth. Our psychologists employ a range of evidence-based therapies to best suit you and your needs. We uphold the highest standards of confidentiality to ensure you feel completely safe in discussing any issue that is causing you difficulty.

In life, every person will experience challenging periods where they may feel stressed, worried, sad, frustrated, disappointed, lonely or scared. These periods and these emotions are part of a normal life experience, and most will pass after some time. However if these challenges are not managed well, if they persist after some time or are causing you significant distress seeing a psychologist can be a helpful way in which to manage these difficulties. Mental distress does not discriminate, people from all walks of life are vulnerable to experiencing mental distress at one point or another. Experiencing mental distress does not make you weak or a failure, it is something that every person will experience to some degree throughout his or her life. Seeing a psychologist can help to support you through these difficult periods, building the skills, strategies and resilience to help you to better cope with the ups and downs of life.

At Strategic Psychology we can help with a number of different challenges that you may face at different times in your life. Please see our list of common problems as reference to just some of the many different challenges we help our clients with every day.

At Strategic Psychology we are able to offer psychological intervention services such as counselling and psychological assessments.

No problem is to big or too small to see a psychologist to discuss if it is causing you distress. In fact, addressing “smaller” problems can quite often stop them from becoming “bigger” problems down the track. The earlier you are able to address a problem, or even manage problems before they arise, the easier it will be to continue to live a productive, meaningful and enriching life.
