Fees and Rebates

Consultation fees depend on which psychologist you wish to see and the length of your consult. Please contact our office on 6262 6157 for more information. Strategic Psychology is not a bulk billing practice, however with a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from your GP, you will be eligible to receive Medicare rebated appointments for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Under the Better Access Initiative, individuals are able to access specific psychological services and receive a Medicare rebate. This rebate is designed to allow more people within the community to access psychological assistance when in need.

If you have been referred by your GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be able to claim a Medicare rebate of approximately $92.90 for a registered psychologist and approximately $136.35 for a clinical psychologist per consultation for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Note: Relationship counselling sessions are not eligible for Medicare rebates. Parent/caregiver appointments attended for the purposes of supporting children 12 years and younger (where the child does not attend the session), are not eligible for Medicare rebates. Sessions with a provisional psychologist are also not eligible for Medicare rebates.

Although most private health funds provide rebates for services by a registered psychologist, you cannot claim on both Medicare and your private health fund. As health funds vary on the amounts they rebate, please contact your own fund for specific information.

Accessing rebates

Check your eligibility

If you are experiencing any mental health concerns, you may qualify for Medicare-rebated psychological consultations through a Mental Health Treatment Plan. To assess your eligibility for a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, please follow the steps outlined below.

Approaching a GP for a Mental Health Care Plan

  1. Phone your local Medical Practice and request to book a longer consultation with your doctor as you will be requiring a Mental Health Treatment Plan assessment (please note, a Mental Health Treatment Plan requires additional time to be completed).
  2. Discuss your concerns with your GP and ask him/her to complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan (if you are eligible) so that you can access psychological services and receive a Medicare rebate.
  3. If you are eligible, you should leave the GP appointment with a Mental Health Treatment Plan at which stage you can call us on 6262 6157 to book in an appointment.
  4. Make sure you bring your Mental Health Treatment Plan to your first appointment.
