What is IQ / Cognitive Functioning?
IQ (Intelligence Quotient) and cognitive functioning refer to an individual’s ability to think, learn, solve problems, and apply judgment. These assessments measure skills like reasoning, memory, processing speed, and executive functioning (e.g., planning and organising). An IQ test, such as the Wechsler scales, provides insight into intellectual strengths and challenges. In some cases, it can support applications for early school entry in Australia, demonstrating a child’s readiness for academic demands ahead of their age group. However, schools often consider additional factors like social maturity alongside test results.

Important Considerations
If an assessment may be used to support a funding application with an agency (e.g. NDIS or Services Australia), it is important to confirm the relevant eligibility requirements in advance. These agencies often require assessments to be completed by a psychologist with specific registration or qualifications. Selecting the appropriate psychologist and assessment from the outset is essential, as some assessments have restrictions on how often they can be repeated. Understanding the criteria relevant to your circumstances before proceeding will help ensure the assessment aligns with both current and future needs.
This assessment can be conducted for clients aged 4+
