Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Assessment in Canberra

Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) assessment in Canberra for children and teenagers, with clear feedback and practical recommendations for families and schools.

All children push back sometimes. For some, though, anger, arguing and defiance happen so often, and so intensely, that family life, school and friendships start to suffer. An oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) assessment can help make sense of what’s going on and what might help.

At Strategic Psychology in Canberra City, our psychologists assess ODD in children and teenagers. We look at the full picture. ODD often overlaps with ADHD, anxiety, learning difficulties or autism, so we consider these too and can recommend a combined assessment where it fits.

What the assessment involves

  1. A 30-minute initial phone consultation to talk through your concerns and confirm the right assessment.
  2. Questionnaires for parents and, where helpful, teachers.
  3. An in-person session with your child and a detailed developmental and family history.
  4. Verbal feedback, followed by a written report with recommendations for home and school.

An assessment checks whether the diagnostic criteria are met. A diagnosis is not guaranteed. Whatever the outcome, we give you clear feedback and next steps. For children, both parents need to consent where shared parental responsibility applies.

Want an early sense of the signs? Our free ODD checklist (PDF) can help. It isn’t a diagnosis.
