Riya is a registered psychologist who has completed an undergraduate psychology honours degree and holds a masters in social work. She has an interest in working across a wide range of issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, childhood trauma and attachment/emotional related issues. Riya has worked across various government and private settings, such as occupational rehabilitation/ employee assistance services and family violence units within government.
Riya believes in fostering collaborative therapeutic relationships where clients feel understood, supported and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. She utilises evidenced-based techniques from various modalities, ensuring a comprehensive and effective treatment plan tailored to each individual’s goals and needs. She is interested in working with adolescents and adults and has experience working with people from various cultural backgrounds.
Riya aims to support clients in developing greater self-awareness, resilience, and emotional well-being through a combination of insight-oriented exploration, skill-building exercises, and experiential techniques.
Riya possesses expertise in psychological formulation and treatment planning, enabling her to tailor her approach to address the distinct needs of her clients. Her primary training is in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and she has also acquired additional expertise in Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy.
Furthermore, Riya has completed EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) level 1 training, equipping her to assist clients with complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustments to returning to employment, and chronic depression.
Riya has also received training in the Unified Protocol, a transdiagnostic approach that addresses the common underlying issues in emotional disorders. Additionally, she has completed level 1 training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), a therapeutic approach that utilises experiential techniques to promote emotional healing and transformation. Currently, Riya is in the process of completing a year-long level 2 training in AEDP.
